Method 1: File Explorer Options

1. Open the Start menu and search for Control Panel. Click the option that appears and the Control Panel will open.

2. Within Control Panel, find and click File Explorer Folder Options to open File Explorer settings.

3. Make sure the Show recently used files in Quick access option is turned on, as well as the Show frequently used folders in Quick access option.

4. Click Clean Up to remove any recent files or folders from Quick Access. This may help resolve the issue.

Method 2: Restart after a Windows Update

1. Click the Start button and then click Settings.

2. In the Settings window, find and click Update & Security.

3. If there's an update pending, restart your computer after installing it. Sometimes, restarting after an update can resolve issues with File Explorer.

Method 3: Check and repair system files

1. Open Windows Search and type cmd. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

2. In the Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This command will scan for and repair corrupted or damaged system files.

3. Next, type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and press Enter. This command also helps restore system health and troubleshoot issues.

Method 4: Restart Windows Explorer

1. Right click the start button and select Task Manager.

2. In the Task Manager window, find and click Windows Explorer.

3. Click the Restart button in the lower right corner.
